Possible Spoiler For WrestleMania Main Event

On Tuesday’s Smackdown Live, Charlotte Flair defeated Smackdown Women’s Champion Asuka to capture her title in a swerve none of us saw coming.

The timing seemed strange as Naomi, Carmella, Sonya Deville and Mandy Rose were all set to square off for the right to face Asuka at WrestleMania on the show but instead, we got this impromptu title match. Also, Charlotte is involved with Becky Lynch and Ronda Rousey over the Raw Women’s Championship.

Fans have speculated that Charlotte won the title to give her more momentum heading into the historic match on the “grandest stage of them all”. However, Wrestling Observer Radio’s Bryan Alvarez has suggested another possible reason as to why Charlotte won the title, and that involves potential spoilers for the outcome of the two matches on the show, including the main event.

Alvarez said the following:

“This is not about Asuka, it’s about Charlotte. The Women’s Champion could have been Asuka, it could have been Naomi, it could have been Carmella… it doesn’t matter who the Smackdown Champion would have been. They want the Horsewomen closing out the show as champions at WrestleMania.”

Alvarez is speculating that the title was put onto Flair so she can be a champion at the end of WrestleMania to make the closing shot work. This would mean that not only are Bayley and Sasha Banks successfully defending their WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships against Beth Phoenix & Natalya, The IIconics and Nia Jax & Tamina, but that Becky Lynch is also winning the main event and walking out as Raw Women’s Champion. This would mean all four girls hold titles and the final image of the show would the Horsewomen all celebrating in the ring with their gold.

Bryan Alvarez also suggested that Charlotte’s win was not a knock on Asuka, but just part of the bigger plan WWE had for the show.

“Whoever was the Smackdown champion was losing that title to Charlotte. Don’t make a big deal about this than it is. Becuase it’s not that big of a deal at all”.
