WWE may have given us some clues regarding some names who are going to switch brands in the upcoming WWE Draft that commences later this week.
The following is not confirmed by any means (hence the use of “possible” in the headline), but history tells us they wouldn’t be at all surprising.
WWE tends to use talent who will be switching brands to put other talent over on their way out, and there were two very distinct examples of this on SmackDown this past Friday. This is likely because WWE views moving to a new brand as a “reset” of sorts so there’s no need to carry any momentum over. Which is silly, but so are a lot of things WWE does.
The first was the opening match, which saw Jey Uso defeat AJ Styles clean. It had already been rumoured that Styles would be switching anyway due to Paul Heyman’s arrival on SmackDown. A falling out with Heyman while he was the executive director of Raw is why Styles moved to the blue brand in the first place. That, coupled with the loss to Uso, makes a switch a near certainty.
The other match was John Morrison losing to Otis. The match was a essentially squash match and only lasted a couple of minutes, despite Morrison being kept at least semi-credible since his return earlier this year up until that match. WWE has gotten into the habit of splitting every tag team possible so it wouldn’t be surprising for Miz & Morrison to go their separate ways.
No doubt tonight’s Raw might give us some more hints too. The WWE Draft takes place on the October 9 SmackDown and the October 12 Raw.
