Dave Meltzer Corrects Accidental 5-Star Rating Dave Meltzer

Wrestling Observer’s Dave Meltzer has revoked a five-star rating for a wrestling match in news that will shock the wrestling world!

Originally, Dave Meltzer had awarded the coveted five-star rating to Bryan Keith and Speedball Mike Bailey’s match at PWG Battle of Los Angeles Night 2.

The event, which took place on January 8 2023 would see both men collide in the semi-final match before Bailey would go on to face and defeat Konosuke Takeshita in the final.

In the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (subscription required) dated January 16, Meltzer would say:

“Mike Bailey pinned Bryan Keith in 18:04. They tore the house down. There was a great elbow trade early. Bailey came off the top with double knees to a draping Keith. They traded hard chops to the back. Keith used an exploder int the turnbuckles. Bailey used the speedball kicks. Bailey did another moonsault off the middle rope to the floor. Keith did an exploder off the top rope and a shining wizard before Bailey won with a 450 double knees.”

He would award the match a respectable five-and-a-quarter stars.

Meltzer has since issued a correction to the rating in the current Wrestling Observer Newsletter a week after the fact, clarifying it was supposed to be listed as four-and-a-quarter stars:

A correction from last week, the Bryan Keith vs. Mike Bailey PWG match should have been listed as ****1/4″

Mike Bailey invoked a “no take backs” policy on the review on January 18 through his personal Twitter account.

Dave Meltzer did also issue a statement on the misinformation spread in what would be revealed as a ‘hoax’ story relating to Dragon Gate.
