An update has emerged on R-Truth’s departure from WWE, with more details emerging on reactions to his exit announcement.
R-Truth took to social media on June 1 to announce he had been released by WWE.
Both Fightful and PWInsider have confirmed that this announcement is legitimate, but that WWE will not be renewing R-Truth’s contract, as opposed to it being a ‘release’.
Fightful Select has provided more details on R-Truth leaving WWE, with their report noting that Truth had been contacted by a talent relations employee over the weekend and informed that his contract will not be extended.
It was added that a number of talent reached out to Truth to check on him following his departure announcement, with it noted that “everyone seemed confused by the news, including Truth himself.”
Discussing the reaction to the news, Fightful Select noted that the news resulted in complete shock and disbelief. One top talent calling Truth’s exit “total nonsense” and another called the new management regime “ruthless.”
Per Fightful, this has been the most criticized and disliked departure they’ve ever covered by far in terms of the reaction from people in the company to the decision.
Discussing his future, Fightful noted that there was “immediate interest” in booking Truth from top independent promotions.
It was noted that there’s a “very good chance” that Ron Killings owns the rights to his theme song, pointing out that he self-produced it.
The report stated that Fightful is still working to find out exactly when R-Truth’s contract expires.
We’ll keep you posted if any further updates emerge, and we continue to wish Truth all the best going forward.
