Report: Randy Orton’s Career ‘Almost Ended’ Before WWE Absence WWE

An update has emerged on the severity of the situation Randy Orton was facing before his absence from WWE which began last year.

There have been many reports to the effect of people in WWE being ‘concerned’ about Randy Orton due to back issues, but Dave Meltzer has now explicitly stated on Wrestling Observer Radio that Orton’s career “almost ended”.

Meltzer was explaining his report from last night that Paul Levesque (Triple H) recently made the decision to split the Raw and SmackDown Tag Team Championships to be defended separately, and got onto the topic of why they were unified to begin with.

He said:

“The tag titles were not going to be unified, and then… that’s when Randy Orton’s career almost ended.

“They just figured Riddle and Orton were just gonna stay as the Raw champions, but there was gonna be no more Orton, he pretty much finished up after losing that title.

“So without Riddle and Orton, RK-Bro who were a hot team, they just went with the Usos to hold both belts.”

The Usos beat RK-Bro for the Raw Tag Team Championship in a unification match on May 20, 2022, which was in fact Orton’s last match before he took time away and has yet to return.

Orton has barely been seen or heard from throughout his time away other than a couple of photos posted to social media by his wife.

We continue to wish him all the best with his recovery.
