Randy Orton Pitches To Face John Cena At WrestleMania

Randy Orton and John Cena have wrestled on more pay per views than I care to count. It has been six years since their last pay per view encounter, but Orton is thinking about one final match between them.

On the SummerSlam media call, Orton revealed his pitch to face Cena at WrestleMania. Now, this sounds like a groan-inducing idea, but from a storyline perspective, it’s not bad at all. Alex McCarthy of talkSPORT provided the details on Twitter.

“Randy Orton says in three or four years, he wants to be tied on 16 world titles with John Cena – who would be heel and have Ric Flair in his corner – and they face off at WrestleMania to see who gets the record number 17 and they both have to retire after.”

As far as ideas go, there have been worse ones than this. Cena and Orton are each other’s most hated rivals and WWE would like you to believe it is one of the greatest rivalries ever. However, despite all their battles, they’ve never wrestled one-on-one at WrestleMania. Surely this is something they would like to change and clearly Orton is behind the idea.

The only time they came close was at WrestleMania XXIV when they had a Triple Threat also including Triple H.

If Orton is to catch Cena in world title reigns, he has some work to do. Cena is currently tied for the record at 16 while Orton sits at 13. He is currently set to face Drew McIntyre for the WWE Championship at SummerSlam so he could move one reign closer.
