An update has emerged on the potential opponent for Randy Orton at night two of WWE WrestleMania 41 tonight.
Orton was originally planned to face Kevin Owens at WrestleMania, but a couple of weeks ago, Owens announced he needed neck surgery and wouldn’t be able to wrestle.
This left Orton, in what was set to be his 20th WrestleMania, without an opponent.
On the pre-Mania episode of SmackDown, Orton confirmed that he would still be in action, and would be holding an ‘open challenge’, saying ‘anyone in Las Vegas’ was welcome to accept it.
During the Countdown show today, the panel of Michael Cole, Pat McAfee, Big E and Wade Barrett were discussing the match, but made a specific point of pausing when a fan chant broke out.
That fan chat was one of “Rusev Day”, with Rusev (Miro) reportedly returning to WWE after being released by AEW in February.
Rusev is known to have been in Las Vegas with his wife Lana (CJ Perry) this weekend.
In response to the chants, Big E said:
“We’ve heard rumors of certain other names coming in from a different company who are now free agents, so who knows?”
We’ll of course keep you posted with any further updates.
