Reaction From WWE, AEW & IMPACT To Zelina Vega Release

Last night, WWE rather surprisingly announced that they had decided to release SmackDown star Zelina Vega. It has since emerged that she didn’t ask for her release and higher-ups made the call to let her go.

It has also been reported that Vega was actually at SmackDown last night before being released just an hour or so before the show went on the air. You can read more about that by clicking here.

Fightful Select has since revealed some of the backstage reaction from WWE, and also from other companies to Vega’s release. Someone within IMPACT even said that they’d try and campaign to get Vega to join.

The report notes that many people within WWE were also confused about Vega’s release, with many were said to be shocked. Someone even stated that if a wrestler was to stand up against the third-party ruling, it would be Vega.

In terms of the AEW side of things, sources told Sapp that people within the promotion were shocked at the release, with one noting that WWE had “lost their minds” and didn’t know what they had in Vega.

With regards to IMPACT, one source told Fightful that they were going to campaign to company management to try and get Vega back to the company. She worked for IMPACT (then TNA) before joining WWE.
