Kenny Omega has confirmed the real reason why the release of the AEW Fight Forever console game was delayed.
As of writing, AEW Games have not shared an official release date for Fight Forever, despite the game first being announced in November 2020.
Speaking on the Swerve City Podcast, Omega confirmed that the team ran into issues trying to scale the content down in order to get a ‘Teen’ rating by ESRB.
Discussing the production of the game, Omega said:
“It does suck because the rating has held us back a little bit because we really wanted to get it out.
“The longer the time goes by, this finished product that we have of a game is just gonna be a little dated, right?
“Sure, a lot of the same people are going to be there, but some aren’t, and you’re going to wonder why ‘I’ve seen this guy on TV for weeks, why isn’t he in the game?’
“It’s because the game has been done, but we’ve had to try to get our game in a position to be rated so that we can sell it. So now, I can positively say that we’re headed back in the right direction.”
Andrew Zarian recently reported that the game is currently slated for a release in Q2 of 2023, which would mean April, May or June.
A new gameplay clip has been shared for AEW Fight Forever featuring Hangman Page and Bryan Danielson, which you can watch right here.
