During Cody’s match with Shawn Spears at AEW All Out, Arn Anderson came down to the ring at hit Spears with his trademark Spinebuster.
This came after Tully Blanchard, Spears’ manager and Anderon’s former tag team partner, repeatedly got involved in the match.
Despite not being an active wrestler, Arn’s appearance generated one of the loudest pops of the night from the crowd inside the Sears Center.
Speaking on the latest Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer claimed why AEW made the decision to have the legend appear on the show:
“The Arn Anderson spot was probably as hot as anything on the show. It was kind of interesting because Arn Anderson is from decades ago, but everyone knew. It’s like the minute he walked out everyone knew Arn Anderson because they all wanted it.”
“It’s a very interesting thing because people would have been disappointed with no Arn Anderson so they gave them MJF with the idea that they’re gonna go, ‘Oh, it’s not Arn’ and then they gave them Arn Anderson in the match I think that world very well.”
The spot was not only well-received by wrestling fans and critics, but also seemingly by former WWE Champions.
Just after the show, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson took to Twitter to express his happiness at seeing Arn step into the ring once again.
So much fun for the crowd!! Double A!! Spine on the pine. No one better!! And great call @JRsBBQ ????

There are currently no plans for AEW to pair Cody with Arn Anderson on a permanent basis. It is believed that the spot was a one-off.
