Real Reason Behind CM Punk’s WWE Absence

Real Reason Behind CM Punk’s WWE Absence WWE

The real reason that WWE World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk has been absent from in-ring action has now been revealed.

Punk last competed at WWE Survivor Series WarGames on November 29, teaming with Cody Rhodes, Roman Reigns and The Usos in a losing effort against Brock Lesnar, Drew McIntyre, and The Vision (Logan Paul, Bron Breakker & Bronson Reed).

With the WWE World Heavyweight Champion absent from television, it has now been revealed that he was filming a movie.

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Punk has been filming a role for the upcoming Netflix movie ‘The Bodyguard’, with Dave Meltzer writing:

“Punk has been off television the past two weeks because he’s filming the movie “The Bodyguard,” for Netflix.

“Punk will play a member of a security detail who is supposed to be both intimidating and funny.”

‘The Bodyguard’ is an adaptation of the Katherine Center novel and stars Leighton Meester, Jared Padalecki and Andie MacDowell.

Netflix Tudum confirmed the production in November of this year, revealing a rom-com plot revolving around a “no-nonsense bodyguard” and a “charming action star”:

“Leighton Meester (Good Cop/Bad Cop, I Love LA, The Buccaneers) and Jared Padalecki (Supernatural, Walker) are set to star in an upcoming holiday romantic comedy about a no-nonsense bodyguard who is assigned to protect a charming action star over the holidays. Of course, sparks fly, secrets unravel, and Christmas gets a lot more complicated!”

At the time of the Tudum article, it was stated that the movie would go by a “different (as yet undecided) name”, with Elizabeth Allen Rosenbaum (Aquamarine, Purple Hearts, Ginny & Georgia) on directing duties and a script by Erin Cardillo and Richard Keith (Isn’t It Romantic, Virgin River).

In early November, horror fans got their first look at CM Punk in Night Patrol, in which he plays an intimidating figure that is definitely far from “funny”.

CM Punk and AJ Lee recently announced that their pet dog Larry had unfortunately passed away.

A recent report indicated that the WWE World Heavyweight Champion will be at an upcoming show.
