Cody Rhodes stirred Twitter up once against this past Wednesday, this time by using a flaming table in his match on AEW Dynamite.
Having also pulled out a sledgehammer and golden shovel from under the ring, the match ended with Rhodes launching Andrade El Idolo off the top rope through the table after his wife Brandi had set it alight, although it was actually Cody’s back that took the brunt of it.
Today’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter has provided some background into the mindset of Cody Rhodes and why the spot was done.
Rhodes reportedly wanted to “create a new memory” for his hometown of Atlanta, which is where the show took place.
Back in February 2020, also in Atlanta, Rhodes took on Wardlow in a steel cage match, memorable for Rhodes’ moonsault off the top of the cage.
The idea this time around was to do something even bigger and more memorable than that, and that’s why the flaming table came into play.
Both Rhodes and Andrade were said to be “not badly injured” after the match.
