All Elite Wrestling (AEW) announced during Dynamite this week that they are going to be putting on their first house show next month at Daily’s Place on April 9.
The show is set to take place the day before WWE WrestleMania 37, and Dave Meltzer is reporting in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter that this is no coincidence:
They announced their first house show ever for 4/9. The idea is that they are going live on 4/7, and then doing a closed-set taping on 4/8 for the 4/14 show. So the talent is already in town. Obviously, while nobody will say that, the idea came from the fact that people who were going to Mania week, while no doubt some would want to see NXT on 4/7, they only allow 100 in and Jacksonville is about a three-and-a-half hour drive, while not close, if there are people traveling some would want to attend. On 4/9, there is no WWE live activity, because Smackdown was being taped a week ahead and Smackdown wouldn’t let fans in anyway. So the idea is that wrestling fans in town may want to see an AEW house show. AEW had said they’d never piggyback off Mania, and it’s more adding a show in their own building. But since everyone is in town, the cost of doing a house show isn’t that high and for the younger talent, it gives them a chance to perform before different fans
AEW has already announced some exciting matches for their live event, including bouts for Death Triangle, AEW World Champion Kenny Omega, The Young Bucks and Cody Rhodes.
