A new report has discussed an odd Sin Cara partnership, reporting that a WWE executive told Sin Cara his character wasn’t fresh anymore.
In late 2019, Sin Cara was accompanied to the ring by Carolina (Katrina Cortez). Sin Cara and Carolina teamed up once to face Andrade and Zelina Vega on Raw.
According to Fightful Select (subscription required), the reason for the Carolina partnership was to get Andrade and Vega over. It reportedly wasn’t seen as an official call-up for the Performance Center recruit.
It was also reported that Paul Heyman had even told Sin Cara that the character was dead, with WWE having no long term plans for the duo.
Sin Cara was released from WWE in December 2019. Carolina most recently competed in NXT under the name “Katrina Cortez”. Cortez competed at New Years Evil at the beginning of the year, losing to Xia Li. Now going by Cinta De Oro, Sin Cara returned to Mexican promotion AAA in 2020.
Andrade requested his release earlier this year, officially departing from WWE in March. He took a shot at the company for misusing Mexican talent.
Andrade recently issued a challenge to AAA Mega Champion Kenny Omega. You can read Omega’s response to the TripleMania challenge here.
