Real Reason Murphy Has Been Off WWE TV Revealed

The real reason that WWE SmackDown star Murphy has been off TV for a couple of months has now been revealed.

Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer explained how the release of Steve Cutler was unfortunate timing for Murphy in particular.

Meltzer said:

“Buddy Murphy and Wesley Blake ended up being the victims of this whole thing being dropped. There was gonna be Rey Mysterio, Dominik Mysterio and Buddy Murphy against Corbin, Wesley Blake and Steve Cutler. Well you take Wesley Blake and Steve Cutler out, there’s no spot for Murphy unless you want to make these Dominik Mysterio matches three-on-one instead of two-on-one, and they decided to just go with the two-on-one.

“And Aalyah (Mysterio) is the one who hasn’t tested positive for anything, of anyone. Well, not the only one, but in the Mysterio family she’s the only one that didn’t test positive. She just hasn’t been on TV. They got this angle going, people were talking about the angle, and then they just dropped it – I couldn’t tell you why they dropped it. I guess they just didn’t have any good ideas left so they stopped it.”

Murphy’s last match was a loss to King Corbin on the December 4 episode of SmackDown on FOX.

He had just turned babyface as Rey and Dominik Mysterio accepted his relationship with Aalyah following Murphy’s win over Seth Rollins.
