Paul ‘Triple H’ Levesque has explained why he was against the idea of moving NXT into the WWE ThunderDome at the Amway Center in Orlando.
Raw, SmackDown and pay-per-views have aired from the ThunderDome for a couple of months now, and it’s been reported there were discussions about moving NXT there too.
However, today it was announced that NXT will be moving from Full Sail University to the new Capitol Wrestling Center at the Performance Center. It will be similar to the ThunderDome in that there will be fans via video screen, but there will also be fans physically inside the venue too.
Speaking with Sports Illustrated, Levesque explained why he didn’t want NXT moving to the ThunderDome, saying he wants the brand to maintain a unique feel.
He said:
“Since we have a permanent residence at the Amway Center, there was talk of NXT running there, but I was very resistant to that. Don’t get me wrong, the spectacle of it is awesome. But one of my goals is to make sure NXT has its own feel and vibe. Now we’re ready to make our splash, and when people see what we have created, people will understand why this is the best environment for us.”
The debut of Capitol Wrestling Center will take place tonight for TakeOver 31. WrestleTalk.com will, of course, have live coverage for the show later.
