Real Reason Popular NXT Star Isn’t On WWE TV Revealed

Dave Meltzer is reporting on the latest Wrestling Observer Radio that WWE didn’t want to use Pat McAfee as a regular on NXT TV following TakeOver WarGames in November.

Meltzer is reporting that WWE told McAfee that they’d call him in the Spring regarding a return to television, but didn’t want to use him between WarGames and then:

“He can always come back. They can always ask him, he’s ready to go.

“I just know that when he did the last match that he was told ‘we’ll bring you back in the spring’.

“I think that they didn’t want him as a regular. There’s no heat, but they just told him ‘we’ll call you back in the spring’. It wasn’t like he said ‘I’m busy, I can come back in the spring’. It didn’t go that way. It was like ‘we’ll call you in the spring’. So they could call him tomorrow and he could come back. He didn’t act like he wouldn’t. They could change their mind, but whatever it was, that’s just how it went down.”

This is probably a great call. Pat McAfee has been exceptional in everything he’s done with NXT, but higher-ups are probably right to not have him on TV as a regular and risk overexposing him at this early stage of his career.
