Real Reason Roman Reigns Triple Threat Main Evented WWE Raw

SmackDown’s Universal Champion Roman Reigns had not one, but two matches on this week’s episode of Raw, and we now know why.

Roman first appeared in a six-man tag match between The Bloodline and the New Day, but after this match was interrupted by Bobby Lashley, a Triple Threat between Roman, Lashley and Big E was made for the main event of the show.

According to Dave Meltzer on the latest Wrestling Observer Radio, the booking decision was made at midday on Monday, just a few hours before the show went live.

Meltzer reports the triple threat had main-evented WWE house shows over the weekend, and reports were that it was very good, so Vince McMahon made the call to have it main event Raw as well.

He also noted the reason for the lack of advertising was that the decision was made so last minute.

Meltzer said:

“What happened on the weekend, shows in North Charleston, they did a three way between Roman Reigns, Bobby Lashley and Big E, and Vince got the word that the matches were very good, and so at noon the day of the show [RAW] he [Vince] did an about face and moved the six man tag to basically set up this match as the main event, figuring this would be the strongest ratings possible. That’s why it wasn’t advertised and that’s why it was a last minute thing.”

Roman Reigns will face Demon Finn Balor at Extreme Rules this weekend, but new WWE Champion Big E is currently without a match for the PPV.
