Real Reason For The Rock’s 2023 Filming Hiatus? WWE

A former WWE writer and friend of Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson has commented on the Hollywood star’s filming break reportedly set for early 2023.

It was previously reported that WWE plans for The Rock to return to the ring to face Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 39 in April 2023, providing that The Rock’s schedule allows for the in-ring comeback.

Later reports indicated that The Rock doesn’t have any shoots planned for early 2023, fuelling speculation that The Rock will soon be preparing to make a wrestling return.

Speaking with Steve Fall of SEScoops, Brian Gewirtz suggested that The Rock will be focusing on a non-wrestling venture early next year, noting:

“I saw an internet report at one point saying ‘Oh The Rock’s not shooting any movies in February.’ I don’t know if he is or not but he is launching with Dany (Garcia) a gigantic football league so that might take some time too.”

The ‘gigantic football league’ Gewirtz referenced is the XFL, which will return in February 2023. The XFL recently announced its first eight teams, ahead of the draft that will take place between November 15-17. The Rock and Dany Garcia notably acquired the promotion from Vince McMahon in 2020.

A WWE return isn’t completely ruled out by the XFL kick-off, but it’s worth bearing in mind that regardless of any WWE plans, The Rock will be extremely busy in early 2023.

The Great One is currently celebrating the success of his outing as DC’s Black Adam, with the film recently passing $100 million in domestic box office ticket sales.

Roman Reigns will next defend his Undisputed WWE Universal Championship against Logan Paul at WWE Crown Jewel. Check out the updated card for the November 5 premium live event right here.
