AEW star Ricochet has explained why his wife Samantha Irvin ultimately made the decision to leave WWE last year.

A few months after Ricochet himself left the company, so did Irvin, despite how prominently she’d been positioned in her role as the top ring announcer.

It emerged following her departure that Irvin ultimately wanted a different role beyond ring announcing, which contributed to her decision to leave.

Speaking on the Ariel Helwani Show today, Ricochet explained a little bit more about that, saying that Irvin was actually already thinking about leaving WWE a few months before he did.

He explained that it wasn’t that Irvin didn’t like announcing, but it wasn’t her dream, and she wanted to put her work into something where she could be more of a character and have a bigger role on the show.

He noted that, one time, he saw her writing something down, and it was musical notes for how she was going to announce Rhea Ripley‘s introduction – so that’s how detailed she was thinking about it, and she wanted to take that passion further.

According to Ricochet, her thought process was:

“If I can make these people feel this way just announcing, what do you think I could do in a promo?”

However, ultimate she felt “stuck” in the role.

“The final straw” was when he left, and that’s what ultimately made up Irvin’s mind to leave a few months later.
