We now have some insight into why WWE made the decision to split the IIconics tag team of Peyton Royce and Billie Kay on last night’s episode of Raw.
The duo lost a match to Liv Morgan and Ruby Riott in which the winning team won a Women’s Tag Team Title shot but the losing team had to disband.
Mike Johnson of PWInsider is reporting that the reason for the split is that WWE wants to give Royce a singles push. He said:
“Basically I was told by several people that Peyton Royce is earmarked for a singles push. They’ve decided that they wanted to push her. And this is not a case of Billie Kay’s leaving the company or anything like that, I am told it was just they want to push Peyton Royce and try and go in a different direction with her.”
Kay and Royce even went to school together back in Australia, had their WWE tryouts together and were signed together. They very much enjoyed their WWE journeys together up until this point.
In NXT they formed a team as the Iconic Duo that got pretty over and then were brought onto the WWE main roster as the IIconics in April 2018. They went onto win the Women’s Tag Team Championship at WrestleMania last year. They were off TV for several months from November until May, but have been fairly prominent since coming back.
