The real reason behind Zoey Stark and Nikkita Lyons being removed from the WWE Women’s Tag Team Tournament has been revealed.
Ahead of the August 19 edition of SmackDown, WWE officially announced that NXT 2.0 stars Gigi Dolin and Jacy Jayne of Toxic Attraction were replacing Zoey Stark and Nikkita Lyons against Natalya and Sonya Deville in the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship Tournament.
In the official announcement, WWE Vice President of Talent Development Creative and head of NXT Shawn Michaels informed the fans that Stark had suffered an injury during her NXT Women’s Championship match against Mandy Rose, while Lyons was “medically unavailable”.
Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer took to Twitter to reveal that the injury suffered by Zoey Stark was a concussion.
Meltzer wrote the following:
WWE officially announced Toxic Attraction vs. Natty & Deville tonight. Stark was injured (concussion but they won’t say that) and Lyons was “medically unavailable”
PWInsider provided an update on Nikkita Lyons, saying that the wording of “medically unavailable” was “correct”, but she is not currently injured.
Fans have speculated that Lyons is unvaccinated that is why the term used is correct, but this hasn’t been confirmed. Unvaccinated talent cannot perform in Canada.
Earlier today, PWInsider reported that Lyons and Stark were not scheduled to be backstage at WWE SmackDown, while Gigi Dolin and Jacy Jayne as well as NXT Women’s Champion Mandy Rose were set to be present.
WWE usually doesn’t announce a concussion, so the company not revealing the injury for Stark makes sense and it’s not the first time they have done so.
