On Tuesday night’s post-WrestleMania episode of SmackDown Live, The Bar once again played the roles of spoilers of Kofi Kingston’s title celebrations, interrupting the show-opening promo to challenge Kofi and New Day to a six-man tag bout in the main event. The duo then revealed that their partner was Raw star Drew McIntyre.
During the match, McIntyre disappeared from sight in the middle of a commercial break, leading to several reports that he may have been injured.
However, according to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, that is not the case. He says that WWE booked McIntyre to leave during the commercial in order to ensure he was not visible at the match’s finish.
The reason behind that is because McIntyre is expected to work with Seth Rollins in Universal Title matches on house shows and probably at an upcoming pay-per-view, so WWE wanted to keep him strong and not have him be seen when his team ended up on the losing side.
Evidently officials felt that with Drew having lost to Roman Reigns at WrestleMania, a second loss in quick succession – which is what happened regardless of whether he was there or not – would damage him.
What a strange thing to do. Why not just have someone else wrestle in the match instead?
