Real Reason For ‘Last Minute’ Change To Ronda Rousey Title Plans

Real Reason For ‘Last Minute’ Change To Ronda Rousey Title Plans WWE

The real reason why Charlotte Flair defeated Ronda Rousey for the SmackDown Women’s Championship at the end of 2022 has been revealed.

Flair made her WWE return on the December 30 edition of SmackDown, after months away from TV.

On this show, she challenged for Rousey’s SmackDown Women’s Title and pinned the former UFC star to win the gold on her first night back.

Per Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, WWE made the decision to take the gold off Ronda Rousey because Rousey didn’t want to be a singles champion.

Discussing Rousey’s tag-team championship aspirations, Meltzer noted:

“They made the decision to go with Charlotte (to win the title), which was basically a last-minute thing, let’s put her over.

“Ronda then decided she wanted to be (in a tag team) with Shayna Baszler because she’s always wanted to do that run, so she will do that run.”

Rousey didn’t hide the fact that she wasn’t interested in a SmackDown Women’s Title run, stating that she doesn’t need a singles title just weeks before dropping the gold.

Since losing the SmackDown Women’s Championship, Rousey has noted that she wants to take over the tag division, admitting that she’s tired of the SmackDown Women’s Title.

The WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship is currently held by Dakota Kai & IYO SKY of Damage CTRL.
