As the wrestling world continues to reel from the releases of Samoa Joe, William Regal, ‘Road Dogg’ Brian James, and other Performance Center staff affiliated with NXT, more details about Samoa Joe’s release have emerged.
Per Fightful Select, while WWE did not release an official statement on this latest round of releases, WWE talent and staff were made aware yesterday via a notification on the talent relations app.
This is atypical for recent precedent, which would see talent given no advance notification before WWE officially confirmed via a statement.
According to all that Fightful heard from, the reason for the release is considered to be “a further dismantling of the 2013-2021 vision of NXT and what Triple H had built.”
Although initially released in April 2021, Samoa Joe had returned to the company in NXT as both an on-screen personality, in-ring performer, and most recently as a talent scout during the last set of try-outs after being plagued by medical clearance issues with WWE.
Per Fightful, all of the sources they spoke to “believe he will return to the ring outside WWE.”
