Real Reason Roman Reigns Beat Drew McIntyre At WWE Clash At The Castle WWE

Given all the build to the match, and the fact that it was the first stadium show WWE had held in the UK in 30 years, Drew McIntyre was obviously going to beat Roman Reigns at Clash at the Castle.

Roman won? Oh.

Roman winning wasn’t out of the realms of possibility for fans, but it was definitely not the result many had been expecting.

Writing in the most recent Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer gave some insight into why the decision was made to have Reigns retain the title. Spoiler: It’s Logan Paul’s fault…sort of.

Meltzer wrote:

The match also gives another reason why Reigns beat Drew McIntyre in Cardiff, Wales, which was the perfect place to do a title change after Reigns’ long reign. Reigns is pushed as the company’s biggest marquee star, and they want him as champion for this match and a potential match with The Rock at WrestleMania. Of course he could lose it and win it back before, but clearly they are looking at a storyline of making him the longest reigning champion post Hulk Hogan. And with this match planned, the idea of him losing to McIntyre and then regaining it in January, which they could have done, couldn’t have been done since they wanted Paul for Saudi Arabia and Saudi Arabia was the next match for Reigns.

Roman Reigns vs. Logan Paul will take place at WWE Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia on November 5. While Roman is a heavy favourite to retain, it’s the match the Saudi Prince wanted, so that’s the match he’ll get.
