Reason For Strange AEW Booking Decision Revealed AEW

There was a change made when it comes to a match from the March 17 edition edition of AEW Rampage.

Last week’s Rampage saw a match between Brody King of the House of Black, and Daniel Garcia of the Jericho Appreciation Society.

Garcia actually won the match, which may seem surprising – not necessarily that Garcia won, but more that King was beaten in a singles match.

Well there’s a reason for that, because it sounds like the original plan was actually for Garcia to beat Buddy Matthews, not Brody King.

In the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer wrote:

On the 3/15 Rampage tapings, the original booking was for Daniel Garcia to beat Buddy Matthews and not Brody King, which is why it seemed so weird for King to do a job after he’d been put over so strong.

Matthews said that he was injured in the trios title match and King was the replacement, and had to lose since the JAS needed the win to keep their trios title program going

It’s not just that JAS needed the win, but also Garcia specifically, because he’s got a match against the returning Adam Cole on Dynamite next week, and it’s typical protocol in AEW that someone who’s positioned like Garcia on the roster – meaning someone who doesn’t win all the time – will get a win right before a big match.

The match will be Cole’s first since Forbidden Door in June 2022 and will serve as something of a precursor to the premiere of AEW All Access, which is said to focus heavily on Cole and his road to recovery.
