Reason Women’s Match Main Evented WWE Survivor Series Possibly Revealed

On Sunday night at the Survivor Series pay-per-view, the three-way match between Shayna Baszler, Becky Lynch and Bayley closed the show.

When people realised that the women would be main eventing, many speculated that Ronda Rousey would be returning. However, the show finished without an appearance from the former Raw Women’s Champion.

On the Wrestling Observer’s review of the show, Dave Meltzer suggested that the women’s match might have main evented the show as WWE wanted to put over Shayna Baszler in a big way:

“I think that they felt that #1 they wanted to end the show with Shayna. I think that Shayna is really high on their list of things and people they want to push as stars. I think that they felt that Becky is the biggest star so she could go on last and I think they expected from the build because of all the three-ways that certainly had the best build that it would get the most reaction and it didn’t. I mean reasoning, I can see the reasoning why they put it last, but you it didn’t work in that position unfortunately.”

It was reported yesterday that Shayna Baszler is wanted on the main roster. The former MMA star is expected to drop the NXT Women’s Championship to Rhea Ripley soon and move to Raw or Smackdown.

Reports also emerged yesterday suggesting that Vince McMahon was unhappy with how the main event went down. Hopefully this doesn’t put him off giving women the main event spot in the future.
