We now know why WWE is planning on hosting this year’s SummerSlam event in August on a Saturday evening for the very first time.
Speaking on the latest Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted that the Allegiant Stadium wanted the event to take place on a Saturday, which is why WWE chose August 21 as the date for the show:
“So this is the deal, the reason it’s a Saturday is because the stadium in Vegas wanted a Saturday. However, it may not be in Vegas, but they already have the date. The date’s a bad date because it’s the same as Manny Pacquiao and Errol Spence.”
As Meltzer notes, this means that WWE is running SummerSlam on the same day and in potentially the same city as the Manny Pacquiao vs. Errol Spence Jr fight.
However, WWE didn’t announce the location for SummerSlam, and despite earlier reports suggesting the Allegiant Stadium was a lock for the show, there have been rumours circulating that WWE may be looking outside of Las Vegas for the venue now.
