Let’s start at the top. The triple threat between Austin Aries, Pentagn Jr., and Rey Fenix was announced at House of Hardcore during the Wrestlemania weekend. It was a great surprise, following a fantastic match over on the Impact vs Lucha Underground show over at Wrestlecon the night before, and replaced a match between Austin Aries and Alberto El Patron that I really wasn’t looking forward to.

I don’t feel cheated that we’ve seen this match before. The added stipulation that this will be for the Impact World Championship really adds something to the match compared to the version we saw at Impact vs Lucha Underground – so I think there is ultimately a lot to look forward to here.

In terms of outcome, I had expected Alberto El Patron to come out on top in the original main event, however I’m not as confident that Aries would lose the title in this match. His loss in the previous triple threat, although he wasn’t pinned, sets up some potential that he might not walk away the victor – but out of kayfabe, it would feel a little strange for either Fenix or Pentagon Jr. to walk out with the belt, unless they have signed full time contracts with the promotion.

The belt looks great on Aries, but I don’t think he needs it. Losing the belt might help ground his character a little more, as I’ve felt since he joined Impact that he’s a little too arrogant to play the Face role that they seem to want him to play. A heel turn isn’t out the question here either, with Alberto El Patron out the picture there isn’t really a heel at the top end of the roster.

Whatever happens, this match is the definition of Main Event. Each wrestler is an incredible talent, the match is for the top title, and I honestly have no idea what is going to happen.
