Released Star Has ‘Good Relations’ With WWE, Return Possible WWE

Mustafa Ali has opened up about the possibility of making a return to WWE ahead of Raw’s premiere on Netflix.

Ali made his WWE debut as part of the 2016 Cruiserweight Classic and would go on to be regularly featured on screen until his release in September 2023.

The release came at an odd time with Ali having been already announced as the opponent for Dominik Mysterio at the September 30 NXT No Mercy.

Trick Williams would go on to face Mysterio at NXT No Mercy, defeating him for the NXT North American Championship.

Speaking about the possibility of a return to WWE on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Ali stated:

“I think there’s multiple paths, yeah. And the thing is there’s good relations there.

“The thing with them moving to Netflix is very, very interesting, because it just opens things.

“I don’t know how much the show is going to do. The show is going to change, as far as dynamic, as far as rating, as far as what they’re okay with.”

Ali’s main roster run saw him head up the much-derided Retribution stable which existed from August 2020 until March 2021.

He would comment on one of the contributing factors to the group’s failure to catch on during an interview in May 2023.

Since his departure from WWE, Ali has returned to the independent scene and also made appearances in TNA Wrestling and NJPW.

With WWE Raw premiering on Netflix with the January 6 episode, it was recently revealed that it would return to being a three-hour show.

Over on USA Network, WWE SmackDown will increase its runtime from two to three hours in January 2025.
