It was announced this week on NXT that tag team partners turned bitter rivals Timothy Thatcher and Matt Riddle will have a Cage Fight on next week’s show. Interestingly, the match is not a cage match that we are used to seeing in WWE, but perhaps something closer to an MMA fight.
As if the prospect of Thatcher and Riddle clashing in an MMA fight wasn’t enough, WWE has made the match even more interesting by announcing that a WWE Hall of Famer who was just released from the company will be the special guest referee.
In a piece of breaking news, WWE has announced that Olympic gold medalist and former WWE Champion Kurt Angle will be the special guest referee for the Cage Fight that will take place on the 05/27 episode of NXT between Timothy Thatcher and Matt Riddle.
This is not the first time Riddle and Thatcher have squared off, with the pair going one-on-one in a great match on the 05/13 episode of NXT TV. It was Riddle who won the first match, so expect Thatcher to walk away with the win next week.

What is interesting is that unless he has been quietly brought back, Kurt Angle is no longer under WWE contract. Like Zack Ryder, Lio Rush, No Way Jose, Rusev and others, Angle was released from his contract on April 15. There is no word on if Angle has re-signed with the company or if this is a one-off, stay tuned to WrestleTalk.com for the latest.
