A released WWE star says they knew they had to “get out” after witnessing a moment involving The Rock backstage.
Former WWE Raw Tag Team Champions Karl Anderson & Luke Gallows were among several WWE stars to be released from their contracts in February, calling time on their second spell with the company.
With their 90-day non-compete period coming to an end, Anderson recently changed his Twitter bio to tease a tell all episode of his and Gallows’ Talk n’Shop podcast, writing The Rock’s name alongside a sad face and the date May 8.
With this alluding to having something to say about The Rock in the upcoming episode, Anderson and Gallows discussed The Rock in what was a teaser episode of Talk n’ Shop ahead of the May 8 show.
Anderson and Gallows said:
Anderson: “The Rock, with a sad face. I’m just going to say this about The Rock and why I put the sad face. I have to say this. The Rock was always on my Mount Rushmore. When I was in high school, I remember being drawn to The Rock. I always thought he was one of the greatest performers of all time. He’s obviously the greatest star in Hollywood. Now that he’s clearly on the board and running WWE, basically.”
Gallows: “And the media.”
Anderson: “And the media, obviously. People are enamored by the guy. I put the sad face there because it’s clear, I’m hyping him up because I had him on a pedestal. He was on Mount Rushmore. I would have put four Rockys on Mount Rushmore. I put the sad face there because, how do I say this? Maybe this is a little disappointment like, ‘Awww, I gotta talk about it.’ I’m disappointed.”
Gallows: “Wrestling has grown so big and it’s such a great thing to see it thrive and for it to be so healthy, but corporate wrestling changes everything. It really does. When corporate takes over in any facet of life or business, there are changes. Some, massively positive, so maybe not.”
Anderson: “I have him on Mount Rushmore. Maybe, just maybe, he’ll be chiseled off that Mount Rushmore. Maybe. Maybe there’s a little disappointment. The business is so different now.”
Gallows then mentioned how he’d been receiving messages from fellow talent about the Tiffany Stratton and Charlotte Flair April 4 SmackDown segment, which then led to Anderson saying:
Anderson: “Trust me, when I saw people running up to The Rock backstage at Gorilla and ask for pictures. In Gorilla. I was like, ‘I gotta get out. This ain’t for me, brah.'”
Gallows: “That’s what happens on the other side of the curtain.”
We will provide further updates on Anderson and Gallows’ future post WWE once their next steps become apparent.
