A released WWE star has revealed what would have made Retribution better.
In the summer of 2020, a faction of disrupters started to attack anything related to WWE, tearing down sets and smashing into buildings.
On September 21, 2020, the identities of the group was revealed, including Mace, T-Bar and Mia Yim, then known as Reckoning. Later, it was revealed that Mustafa Ali was the leader of the group called Retribution.
However, despite the strong initial push, the faction went nowhere and were subsequently split by Fastlane 2021.
In a recent Reddit Q & A, Mace discussed Retribution and noted that he believes the stable would have benefitted from being in front of live crowds. He said:
“At one point we were told that we were going to lose the ski masks and get like neat entrances masks to represent our anonymous nature.”
“I think the concepts I sent in were kinda Gundam-Kamen Rider-y. We showed up one week and they had bane masks for us.”
“I really think retribution would have benefited from a crowd. Even if it ended up silly. Me and TBar pitched being like Bulk and Skull bullies after that fell apart.”
Retribution’s entire run took place entirely during the COVID-19 pandemic when WWE ran shows from the Performance Center and then the ThunderDome.
Only members of Retribution still with WWE are T-Bar, now known as Dijak on NXT, and Mia Yim, who is a member of The O.C. on SmackDown.
Meanwhile, Mercedes Martinez, who was known as Retaliation, was released in 2020 and is now working for All Elite Wrestling. Shane Haste, then known as Slapjack, was released in 2020 and now works for NJPW, while Mustafa Ali and Mace were released in September 2023.
