A recently released WWE star has teased a rematch against current AEW World Champion Swerve Strickland after their encounter in WWE.

Former NXT North American Champion Cameron Grimes (Trevor Lee) took to Twitter back in May, where he announced that he had been released from his WWE contract.

Grimes had debuted for WWE back in 2019 on the NXT brand, before being called up to the SmackDown brand in the 2023 WWE Draft, where he would be sparingly used on TV before being released in May this year.

Today (June 3) marked the five year anniversary of Grimes’ debut on the NXT brand, where he was apart of the Breakout Tournament.

His debut match saw him face off against a fellow debutant, Isiah ‘Swerve’ Scott, who would go on to become current AEW World Champion Swerve Strickland.

Strickland defended the AEW World Championship against Will Ospreay in the main event of AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door this past weekend.
