A released WWE star has officially signed a contract with the NFL’s Buffalo Bills.
After arriving in WWE with much hope and expectation, US Olympic gold medal winning wrestler Gable Steveson’s three years in the company came to an end on May 3 – being one of several cuts on the NXT brand.
However, less than a month following that career setback, the 24-year-old is set to change course entirely by now pursuing a career in football as he has officially signed on with NFL outfit the Buffalo Bills.
The news was announced by ESPN, with Steveson commenting on the switch from wrestling to football.
Noting that he was “grateful” for the opportunity, Steveson said:
“I have been fortunate to compete at the highest level of competition in my sport but am looking forward to the challenge of seeing how my wrestling skills may translate to football, I am grateful to Coach (Sean) McDermott, (general manager) Brandon Beane and the Buffalo Bills organization for giving me this opportunity.”
As noted by ESPN, Steveson has signed on for a three year rookie deal with the Bills and is expected to play as a defensive linesman.
Steveson signed with WWE in September 2021 and would make an early splash on WWE TV – making an appearance at WrestleMania 38 and being drafted to WWE Raw in the 2022 draft.
However, his actual WWE debut wouldn’t come until over a year later in July 2023, when he faced Baron Corbin at NXT Great American Bash – a match which ended in a double countout.
This would be Steveson’s one and only televised match, as he would then hone his skills on WWE’s live event circuit until last month when he was cut from the company altogether.
