An update has emerged on the status of former NWA star Colby Corino, following reports that he’s set to join WWE.
It was reported in early-December 2022 that WWE had a lot of interest in Corino, who was at that time set to become a free agent.
Corino took to Twitter to announce his free agency on January 2, fuelling speculation that he will be WWE’s next signing.
Per Fightful Select (subscription required), Corino is indeed headed to WWE. The report pointed out that WWE was legally unable to reach out to him before his NWA deal expired.
It is currently unclear when Corino is expected to start with the company.
Colby Corino made a name for himself wrestling for the likes of ROH and NWA. He is notably the son of former ECW World Heavyweight Champion Steve Corino.
Steve Corino has been working as a WWE Performance Center coach since January 2017.
Colby’s most recent NWA appearance was on the January 3 edition of Powerrr, with Colby teaming with Joe Alonzo & Odinson to face Carnage, EC3 & Thrillbilly Silas.
He has been wrestling on the independent scene since leaving NWA, notably competing for DEADLOCK Pro-Wrestling on January 14.
WWE recently announced the signing of Dragon Lee, touting the luchador as a high-profile acquisition.
Following the announcement, reports indicated that WWE plans to sign more ‘high quality’ stars.
