It has been reported that CM Punk attended a tryout with Renee Young in Los Angeles for WWE’s new studio show on FS1, WWE Backstage.
It is believed that the former WWE Champion has received an offer from FOX, and will be announced as Renee Young’s co-host rather soon.
However, Dave Meltzer is reporting in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter that FOX actually offered AEW commentator Jim Ross a role on the show before hand.
“To show how much it’s a FOX call, Jim Ross was offered a spot on the show. Ross turned it down, for obvious reasons, but the fact he’d get an offer was telling.”
Meltzer was making the point to prove that FOX are behind the hires for the studio show, rather than WWE.
This means that should the reports be correct about CM Punk co-hosting the show, he will technically be working for FOX instead of WWE.
