Report: Many WWE Stars Refusing To Go Back To Saudi Arabia

It feels like we’re never going to understand exactly what happened in Saudi Arabia with WWE over the past few days, but as small pieces of information are leaked, the picture being painted just gets worse and worse.

While nothing has been confirmed, it seems as though there were major financial issues between WWE and Saudi Arabia, and that this was a major factor as to why many wrestlers were unable to leave on their scheduled flight.

The original story put out by WWE was that there were mechanical issues with the plane, but it seems that this was almost certainly untrue and just a way of trying to distract from the real issue.

Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez spoke in depth regarding the Saudi issues on Wrestling Observer Radio, and Meltzer reported that a number of talent have been in touch with him to say that they will never agree to go back to Saudi Arabia after feeling “like pawns in a dick waving contest”.

Others were reported as saying that they couldn’t wait to leave WWE, and that they felt like hostages while they were stuck in Saudi Arabia for several hours.

Meltzer also reports that WWE hadn’t been paid by Saudi Arabia for Super ShowDown in May, and that a mysterious $60 million payment was made to WWE just a few hours before Crown Jewel aired.

Whether we will ever learn the actual truth of what happened is unclear, but it’s safe to say that this will not have improved the relationship between WWE and Saudi Arabia.

What else is clear is that a number of WWE stars seem betrayed by the company they work for, and that there will be an almighty scramble for willing talent if WWE agrees to go to Saudi Arabia again.
