A big NJPW match involving a Japanese legend and an AEW star is currently being taped, according to a recent report.
Recently, former AEW Champion Jon Moxley challenged wrestling legend Yuji Nagata to a NJPW match. As per a new report, this match is to be taped very soon.
In this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter, it was pointed out that Nagata is off the next month of shows in Japan. Because Japan is still under quarantine, this match would most likely take place in the US, where pandemic restrictions have eased in certain states.
Fittingly defending the IWGP US Championship, Moxley could be taping his upcoming title match as you read this.
Here is the full quote:
“Jon Moxley talked about defending his U.S. title next against Yuji Nagata. Since the quarantine is in effect in Japan, that would seem to indicate Nagata will come to the U.S. for a time, including doing a match with Moxley for the title and quarantine before returning home. It’s probably being taped around now because Nagata is off the next month of shows in Japan.”
Nagata’s last singles match saw him lose to SANADA during the New Japan Cup last month. He has competed in tag-team matches on NJPW shows since, most recently teaming with Hiroshi Tanahashi and Tomoaki Honma.
To the shock of many, Jon Moxley suffered a major defeat at Bloodsport 6. Josh Barnett defeated the current IWGP US Champion in a very bloody encounter.
