It was reported last week that Ric Flair had threatened WWE with legal action after filing to trademark “The Man”.
It is believed that Flair tried to reach out to Vince McMahon over a private deal that would see him receive some payment for WWE’s use of “The Man” as Becky Lynch’s moniker.
The situation is said to have caused a rift between the 16-time World Champion and his daughter, current WWE Superstar Charlotte Flair.
When asked about Ric Flair’s future within WWE, Dave Meltzer noted on the latest Wrestling Observer Radio that the two-time WWE Hall of Famer’s current legends deal is set to expire at the end of the year.
“Who knows what Ric Flair’s relationship is going to be like in January next year. I think Ric’s contract with WWE is up at the end of the year, so.”
Flair is booked to appear on Chris Jericho’s second ‘Rock n Wrestling Rager At Sea’ cruise at the beginning of 2020.
Recently, AEW announced that they will be filming some content for their TNT TV show on the cruise. Therefore, should Flair not re-sign his WWE deal, he could be free to appear on AEW TV in the new year.
