Report: Scrapped WWE Royal Rumble 2021 Plans Revealed

Several scrapped plans for this years Royal Rumble match have been revealed.

Reported by Fightful Select, there were several pitches for spots in the Rumble matches that never came to fruition.

One reported change was the point at which Ricochet entered the match. Originally Ricochet was scheduled to enter the match late, assumedly within the last 10 entrants.

It is unclear why this plan was nixed, but Ricochet ended up entering the match 12th.

It was also reported that Retribution were meant to have a much larger presence during the men’s Rumble match. The report notes that it was pitched that the faction members would interfere with the match, with a Retribution member standing on each side of the ring.

It is also unclear why this pitch was rejected, although Omos played a very similar role to this during the match. Mustafa Ali was the only member of Retribution to officially enter the 2021 Royal Rumble, eventually eliminating Xavier Woods.

The 2021 Royal Rumble match was won by Edge, who has stated that he’ll reveal who he’ll challenge at WrestleMania 37 after Elimination Chamber next Sunday.
