It is being reported on Wrestling Observer Radio that there have been discussions in WWE over whether SmackDown Live could become a 3-hour show once is moves to FOX in October 2019.
According to Dave Meltzer, if it is made 3 hours, the third hour would air on either FS1 or the WWE Network.
Until now, Raw has been the only 3-hour weekly show that WWE has put on, and let’s face it, it often feels as though plenty of the show could have been cut.
However, this is Vince McMahon’s company, and it generally feels as though the opinion backstage is “more is better”, particularly when there’s potentially more money involved.
WWE is no stranger to holding longer shows, WrestleMania alone went about 7 hours earlier this year, so if the decision was made to move SmackDown to a longer time slot, it could easily be done.
The issue is that FOX will have given SmackDown a set time slot on a a Friday evening, and they will not be able to have the third hour on the same channel.
Whether the third hour would include storylines or just matches that would previously have been dark matches is not clear.
We will keep you updated with the story as more information is revealed.
