While many dream of one day being a WWE “Superstar”, the reality isn’t always as sweet as that dream. One bad breakfast and Vince McMahon may decide he’s had enough of you, and you slowly fall into obscurity and find yourself a jobber.
This is exactly what happened to Apollo Crews, who at one point was regarded one of WWE’s brightest new talents. The key here being “at one point”, as Vince slowly lost interest in him and he became little more than a glorified jobber with a lovely smile.
As we saw on this week’s Raw however, times have changed, and Apollo is now the United States Champion.
This, according to Wrestling Observer Radio, is because Vince has agreed to give him a second chance. Dave Meltzer recalled how Crews was supposed to be a big star when he initially debuted.
“Yea, everybody thought he was gonna be a big star until he started and then they thought he couldn’t do it because Vince gave up on him. Remember, they rushed him onto the main roster right away.”
With a number of big stars missing TV due to the pandemic, this could be an opportunities for once forgotten stars like Apollo to make a name for themselves. WWE has struggled to make serious stars in recent years, but it’s really time for that to change if Vince wants those TV ratings to start climbing.
