New backstage information has emerged relating to Daniel Bryan, explaining why he has reportedly chosen to sign with All Elite Wrestling.
Following news that CM Punk was in talks with the promotion, it was reported that Daniel Bryan (real name Bryan Danielson) has “100%” already signed with AEW.
As per Dave Meltzer in the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Bryan’s decision came down to which company would allow him to wrestle for NJPW. Bryan was reportedly only in talks with WWE, AEW and NJPW.
Bryan’s last WWE match took place on the April 30 episode of SmackDown, where Roman Reigns defeated him and banished him from the brand. It was reported that Bryan’s WWE contract legitimately expired around this time.
Following Bryan’s departure, WWE President Nick Khan entered talks with NJPW, hoping to become the Japanese promotion’s exclusive US partner. Bryan was reportedly “absolutely involved” in early negotiations.
Prior to his final WWE match, Bryan was very vocal about his desire to wrestle for other promotions, including NJPW.
