Here is the latest on WWE’s plans for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 38, or lack thereof.
At Royal Rumble, Bobby Lashley defeated Brock Lesnar to win the WWE Championship, with an assist from Roman Reigns. Lesnar went on to win the Royal Rumble match, entering the show’s main event in the #30 spot.
Roman Reigns vs Brock Lesnar has reportedly been in the works for WrestleMania for a number of months. As per WrestleVotes, WWE is still undecided on the WWE Title bout for the April 2-3 event.
Explaining why Lesnar was chosen to win the Rumble, WrestleVotes tweeted:
‘Lesnar had to be the winner here. I’m told they legitimately have no idea what the WWE Title match at Mania is going to be at this point. Avoid the ol pigeon hole.’
It is currently unclear whether a WWE Title match will even main event a night of WrestleMania, with Ronda Rousey winning the women’s Royal Rumble bout to reportedly set up a huge singles match. You can read more about plans for Rousey at WrestleMania here.
Lashley’s victory marked the second time the WWE Championship has changed hands in 2022 so far. Stay up to date with every 2022 title change in WWE using our tracker at this link.
