Well at least they’re high on someone. It has been a rough few months for a lot of people in WWE, with pushes being delayed due to the pandemic, and a lack of live crowds making it hard for anyone to get over organically.
However, it must still be nice to hear that the people in the back whose opinion matters are big fans of yours.
According to Dave Meltzer on the latest Wrestling Observer Radio, there are plenty of people backstage who are very high on current NXT North American Champion Damian Priest.
Meltzer explained that Priest’s win over Johnny Gargano this past weekend at NXT TakeOver 31 was intended to push him on to bigger and better things, as a win over Gargano solidifies him as a force to be reckoned with, given Gargano’s past success in the division.
Priest signed for WWE in October 28 following a very long career on the indies as Punishment Martinez. He is currently 38, so he isn’t perhaps the youngest wrestler on the roster, but he has been very impressive since his NXT debut.
There’s not suggestion that he’ll be called up to the main roster any time soon, but with the likes of Gargano possibly heading to Raw or SmackDown next week, the yellow and black brand will need someone like Priest to prop up its upper-midcard.
