Report: WWE Entered Discussions To Purchase ROH During Hiatus WWE/ROH

WWE was reportedly interested in purchasing ROH, before Tony Khan’s announcement that he has acquired the promotion.

On Wednesday’s edition of Dynamite, the AEW President revealed that he’s the new owner of ROH, announcing an agreement to acquire the promotion from Sinclair Broadcasting Group.

Per PWInsider, WWE showed interest in purchasing ROH after the company announced its hiatus in October 2021. WWE and Sinclair reportedly entered discussions that December, but negotiations ended without an official agreement being made.

The report noted that there were some within WWE who were legitimately shocked at Khan’s announcement, believing that the AEW President was going to reveal a streaming deal with HBO Max. Fightful Select (subscription required) also reports that many within the company believed that Khan had acquired a Japanese tape library that wasn’t NJPW, which ultimately didn’t happen.

Another report has revealed Tony Khan’s plans for ROH following his acquisition, which you can read about right here.
