Since WrestleMania 36, we have seen Apollo Crews move over from SmackDown to Raw and receive a pretty substantial push. A result of the Coronavirus pandemic leaving WWE with a skeleton crew, Crews has been heavily featured on TV in recent weeks, even earning a spot in Money in the Bank.
However, Crews was pulled from the Money in the Bank ladder match on last week’s show, and it seems like this could spark a heel turn for the former NXT star that will play out in the coming weeks of WWE programming.
Wrestling News is reporting that WWE is planning on turning Crews heel in the coming weeks, with his removal from the Money in the Bank match likely being a catalyst for this character change.
Interestingly, the report notes that Crews was actually set to turn heel earlier on this year during his feud with Shorty G and Sheamus. While plans might have changed at that time, it seems as if WWE is still determined on turning Apollo.
There is no word on when WWE is planning on having Crews turn. However, with a very limited roster at the moment, you have to expect that the turn will be coming sooner rather than later.
Crews is a great talent, however, many have argued that he hasn’t displayed much character since debuting on the main roster way back in 2016. Perhaps a heel turn and a more focused push on TV will see Crews realise his true potential.
