The dispute over WWE talent’s use of third party platforms has been going on for a while now. It took a turn yesterday when it was reported that WWE was to be taking over talent’s Twitch accounts. This left a lot of people shaking their heads, including former US presidential candidate Andrew Yang.
Now, Yang has offered some insight of his own. Buckle up, kids. Yang has reported on Twitter that WWE is forcing talent to sign new contracts to include Twitch. This means streaming will then become a work obligation and if talent don’t stream they will lose earnings and face suspensions.
Hearing from talent that WWE is forcing performers to sign new contracts that include twitch. Streaming on twitch will become a work obligation and if talent doesn’t stream they will forego earnings, be suspended or face penalties. Doesn’t sound like independent contractors.

The debate over WWE stars being classified as independent contractors picked up recently with Yang calling out the company and Vince McMahon. This led to Dolph Ziggler engaging in conversation with Yang, explaining both sides of the matter.
However, it is getting exceedingly difficult to justify WWE’s position when new sanctions continue to be placed against the wrestlers.
